The month of October can be a spooky month, maybe even a scary month with monstrous problems. Yikes!! Well maybe not, but words like that seem to be popping up everywhere as kids and adults alike look forward to Halloween.
In fact, according to USA Today, adults spend more on themselves to celebrate Halloween than any other day during the year. I get that. Especially if they want to hang out with the kids to go trick or treating, or to a Halloween party of some kind.
Many homeowners and homebuyers though are truly scared. Scared to death of how in the world they are going to get out of their house and into their next one (the trick).
My Treat: As a result of working with hundreds of families over the years, we have developed a special program to help home sellers and homebuyers. We will guarantee the sale of their present home at a price agreeable to them, and in the unlikely event their home does not sell, we’ll buy it. Now that is how you turn a trick into a real treat.
AND remember… YOUR referrals help the kids.
My heart breaks for many young people and families who will not be able to enjoy this fun time of the year out trick or treating or going to Halloween parties.
As you know, tragedy falls on many in this life. Tragedies like sickness, cancers and other nasty diseases. We aim to do what we can to help kids who are unable to get out and have fun right now, Due to these evil health problems.
My team and I are addicted to helping you and those you know buy or sell the place they call home. In fact, it is a race to help as many as possible so we can GIVE more away.
A CORE philosophy at our company is ‘the size of the hole you give thru is directly proportionate to the size of the hole you receive thru.
Therefore, our Mission is to Go Serve Big!!! Serve you, serve those you refer to us and of course, serve a great cause.

Below is a story about a very special family.

Why I support Childrenʼs Hospital of Los Angeles

I grew up right here in the Greater Los Angeles Area, born in Los Angeles County at St. Francis Hospital. I remember when I first heard about a young person close to our family suffering from a serious disease and getting treated for that at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. It was then that I began to pay closer attention to the work they do at that hospital. Since then, I have learned that it is a collection of hard-working health care professionals, most making their home right here in the Los Angeles area, all coming together for a common cause. That cause is to help young people overcome unfortunate health issues that life sometimes throws our way. Being a Los Angeles Area California native, I take pride in supporting in a way that I can do the good work these people do at Children’s. My team rallies around our annual goal of raising money and donating portions of our income to help Children’s in their quest to heal young people when they need healing. My team and I are committed to providing outstanding results for buyers and sellers referred to us by our past clients. I have discovered that Children’s Hospitals throughout the state of California all share a similar commitment to their patients. And since their services survive on sponsorships and donations, we are happy to contribute and proud to support them.
Sincerely,
Corey Chambers

CHLA’s Brain Tumor Center Helps Avery Navigate Medulloblastoma — by Caitlin Kryl
Avery’s family found answers and advanced care options at CHLA—including liquid biopsy, a hospital-originated monitoring tool for pediatric brain tumors.
Corey didn’t know what to expect when an ER doctor pulled him into a side room to share the results of his 3-year-old’s brain MRI.
He certainly didn’t think he’d be riding in emergency transport, headed south from Santa Barbara, just a few hours later.

The MRI revealed what had been causing his son Avery’s recently worsening balance: a 5.5-centimeter tumor on the back of Avery’s brain.
“It was a complete 180—no time to process emotions,” Corey says. “We hadn’t even thought about the possibility of cancer yet.”
The family’s local hospital referred Avery to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, home to one of the largest pediatric brain tumor centers in the nation.
“They assured my wife and I that it would be the best place for Avery,” Corey recalls. “We said, ‘Okay, let’s go.’”
Specialized pediatric neurology and oncology experts
At CHLA, Avery was diagnosed with an aggressive and fast-growing type of brain cancer called medulloblastoma.

Experts in the hospital’s Brain Tumor Center regularly treat conditions that other doctors may see only once or twice in their lifetimes.
These highly specialized neurologists, neuro-oncologists, neurosurgeons, and pathologists are advancing innovations that help transform the standards of care for pediatric brain tumors.
One of these innovations is a groundbreaking tool developed at CHLA with tumors like Avery’s in mind: LBSeq4Kids, the first clinically available cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) liquid biopsy test in the United States.
The test would enable Avery’s care team to closely monitor his response to treatment and regularly check for hard-to-spot signs of disease.
Liquid biopsy finds what brain tumors leave behind
After surgeons removed as much of Avery’s tumor as possible, a small amount of CSF was collected for the non-invasive test. This would help to establish Avery’s baseline.
“Liquid biopsy gives us the most sensitive understanding of how much tumor DNA remains in the body—genetic clues indicating what’s left behind,” says Mark D. Krieger, MD, Surgeon-in-Chief and Chief of Neurosurgery at CHLA.
A monitoring tool for medulloblastoma treatment
Before the liquid biopsy test was available, there were two methods of assessing tumors: Spotting disease on an MRI or looking for tumor cells under a microscope.
The problem, explains Avery’s neuro-oncologist, Katrina O’Halloran, MD, is that solid tumors are messy.
“Individual cancer cells from the tumor can release tumor DNA and leave a trail of tiny fragments in the CSF,” says Dr. O’Halloran. “This can be a sign that there are still residual tumor cells, which could mutate, grow, and ultimately cause the cancer to return.”
That’s why researchers in CHLA’s Center for Personalized Medicine developed a liquid biopsy test that would help doctors detect these tiny fragments. Under the direction of Jaclyn Biegel, PhD, the first iteration of the test launched in 2022 for clinical use.
“Now, clinical care team members have options for avoiding surgical biopsies when they’re not safe, and ways to monitor disease that may be more sensitive than searching for rare tumor cells in the CSF,” says Dr. Biegel.
“Radiation-avoiding strategies for pediatric brain tumors”
While treatment for medulloblastoma typically involves radiating the whole brain and spine, radiation can have devastating neurodevelopmental effects on young children.

Instead of radiation, Avery’s treatment would include three introductory cycles of standard chemotherapy, followed by a period of higher dose chemo with stem cell rescue.
During the stem cell rescue process, clinicians collect young, blood-forming stem cells from the patient’s bone marrow, then reinfuse them after each treatment round to “rescue” depleted healthy cells.
The intense treatment regimen made Avery’s immune system incredibly fragile, so he stayed in the Bone Marrow Transplant unit for the final three months of treatment. “That unit was our safe space while Avery was immunocompromised,” Corey recalls.
Avery rings the bell
In November 2024, after Avery’s sixth round of chemotherapy, another liquid biopsy test showed he’d responded to treatment.
Before they knew it, Corey and Avery’s mom, Kylie, were watching Avery ring the end-of-therapy bell.

Close monitoring after treatment
While the cancer in Avery’s body was significantly reduced, residual disease was still possible. His care team would use liquid biopsy as a tool to periodically monitor for any signs of tumor recurrence.
By May 2025, Avery’s test results had continued to improve.
When they retested him in July to be sure, the results confirmed their hope:
“No evidence of tumor DNA.”
The next chapter in brain tumor care
Just five years ago, monitoring Avery’s tumor with the same level of detail would have been impossible.
“This is something we’ve never been able to do before, with medulloblastoma in particular,” says Dr. Krieger, reflecting on how liquid biopsy has informed care for pediatric brain tumors. “It’s a tool we’re trying to ensure specialists all over the country have access to as well.”

Today, Avery is an active and social kindergartener who loves tee ball. His long stay at CHLA is something he barely remembers.
For his parents, the support and expertise he received there is something they’ll never forget.
“We didn’t realize it at the moment, but we were so blessed to be at CHLA,” Corey reflects. “We hadn’t been through anything like this before—but everyone there had, and they guided us every step of the way.” ( Story and photos courtesy CHLA )
