Craigslist Apartment Scams

URGENT FRAUD ALERT – Online Classified Websites Rental Scams

REAL ESTATE NEWS (Los Angeles, CA) — The Loft Blog has received many calls this week from prospective renters who are reporting suspicious online property rental listings on websites with a history of apartment scams. The property listing above is most likely a scam, based on the size, price and other factors. If you see an ad like this, flag it!

Properties that are listed on Craigslist, Apartments.com, Rocketlease, Textme or property websites for an unusually cheap rental price for the size and quality should be a big warning sign of fraud. Identities and money are being stolen. Be alert! If the owner or manager is out of town, unavailable, unknown, unverified or suspicious, then do NOT provide any personal information or payment.

Fake apartment postings are exploding, especially during times of economic downturn, and during the holidays. The rental condo con artists are out in force around Downtown and the Greater Los Angeles Area. Don’t let them steal your identity or your money. Don’t fall for this kind of real estate scam! Please flag these fake postings.

Los Angeles Real Estate Fraud Alert – Housing Rental Fraud and Scams on Craigslist

THIS IS A FRAUD! There is no such listing for a loft unit for rent in Downtown Los Angeles. We’re getting reports of more Craigslist fraudsters recently. If you see this or a similar listing on Craigslist, Apartments.com or another real estate rental site, it is likely a scam:

$3,050 / 2br – Bright Live/Work Loft Eckardt Building in Fashion District – w/ 2 pkg (Downtown)

If you’re into tons of natural light, then this is the perfect live/work loft. Located in the heart of the Fashion District just a few blocks from Whole Foods, Apple Flagship store, Hoxton Hotel, Proper Hotel, Orpheum, Ace, Gentle Monster, Urban Outfitters, Verve, No Ghost Bears, Sonoratown, Poppy and Rose, and so much more! This live/work loft features concrete floors, tall 11-foot ceilings, two bedroom/office areas (one is partially enclosed, the other is open), 3 closets, and two, yes, TWO underground parking spaces. 940sf loft has a large bathroom with W/D inside, and a spacious kitchen and dining area. The unit has views of the downtown skyline through huge windows, a fire escape balcony, and all appliances included. The building amenities include a gym, rooftop pool, hot tubs, and several common areas. Ready for April 1 move in. Rent includes water, trash, gas and 2 tandem parking spaces. Tenant pays for electricity and internet and building move in fees. This is an unfurnished loft.

THIS IS A FRAUD! Do not send any money or personal information. If a rental property listing perpetrator does not have a voice phone number, or if they are out of town, the post is most likely a fraud.
