This week, the Audubon Center at Debs Park is attracting lots of extra visitors with its art installations by unique artists such as Kate Lain.  Pass through a doorway made of a floating fabric wall. On the fabric are cyanotypes, photographic traces of local native plants, dirt, water, and sunlight. The form of the installation suggests a familiar architectural form, a threshold between outside and in; however, the walls are porous and change in response to the environment around them. Notions of interior and exterior become blurry. So, perhaps do shelter and home. Kate Lain is a Pasadena-based multidisciplinary artist. Her work asks people to reconsider how they conceive of nature. Those who create art are generally aware that the renaissance and transformation of Downtown Los Angeles has changed social and economic aspect of the city center.  During the urban decay period from 1970s to 2000, Downtown attracted many starving artists due to its relatively low price per square foot for warehouses and converted loft residences.  Today, the starving artists have mostly left, while the super successful artists have been moving in.  Many financially well-off artists of the entertainment business have been moving into the urban area.
