Biography

Early years  —  Andy Neal was born in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California, then grew up in Siloam Springs, AR. Out of place on the farm, he sought refuge from a troubled home life as a teen by delving into movie make-up, horror and science fiction prosthetics, catching the public’s attention while still attending Siloam Springs high school in 1974.

Career
Neal moved back to Southern California after graduating from Siloam Springs High School to work on his career in the arts. Neal posed for Playgirl Magazine, and was placed in Playgirl’s Pegasus 1986 A-Hunk-A-Day Desk Calendar for June 18 by Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Wallaby Books.

Later, his make-up and entertainment skills combined to create a famous comedic character.

Armando Creeper

In 1986, Andy Neal dished out heaping helpings of fright at an abandoned deli warehouse that his school fundraiser converted into a haunted house serving slices of terror. The boy whom nobody understood then made the move from experimenting with his own ghastly make-up that grabbed media-attention with sophisticated ape-planet appliances, to gaining professional employment as a horror make-up artist at the Knott’s Berry Farm Halloween haunted house events.

Inspired by Freddy Krueger, the wacky creep surfaced in 1989 as an idea hatched while helping to create monsters with horror make-up at Knott’s Scary Farm. Armando Creeper acted as the unofficial mascot of the LA Con impromptu actors panel. Andy Neal announced to the Los Angeles media that he was on his way to the big time by hosting charity events and attracting throngs of children. From 1991 to 2005, the Armando Creeper character hosted science-fiction and horror film festivals in several cities from Hollywood to Encinitas, CA, becoming known as the male equivalent of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.

Andy Neal was noted as a show business veteran who came back to his roots to take part in local community theater after working in 22 films and 40 plays, along with work as a make-up artist for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, BS Women of the Wild West, and Movieland Wax Museums Haunted House. His Armando Creeper character was featured in the 1992 Amateur Monster Maker quarterly newsletter for the organization of SPFX Amateur and Professional Make-Up Artists. He inspired make-up artists when he was featured on the cover of Monster Maker Journal. Creeper entertained as the Hunchback of the Bridge at the San Marcos Renaissance Faire and as The Ghost of Christmas Past at the Escondido Renaissance Faire. Dressed as Master of the Dark, Neal’s character sometimes appears in a casket prop, and is often spotted driving a hearse as his personal vehicle, which Neal won as first prize from a Halloween costume contest.

Seen on KFMB-TV CBS Channel 8 San Diego, ABC TV, MTV and Hollywood local access cable television, charming huge audiences at comic conventions, art festivals and cultural events, and particularly booked up in late October, Armando Creeper became synonymous with Halloween. Creeper hosted Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors New York.

Neal gained notoriety for his fiendish brand of humor as a ghastly grin reaper, as a spokesman for Halloween, and for his GQ looks when out of costume. He has cited Hollywood films and dramatic artists as major influences on his development as an artist and entertainer who hosted San Diego Comic-Con events including art contests amid audiences up to 40,000 for several years, uniting comic book lovers from 1990 to 2004. Neal’s character has been a frequently occurring guest on Horror Kung-Fu Theatre, appearing with other comedic fictional characters such as Count Smokula on various episodes between 1995 and 2017. The comic horror celebrity has also hosted horror film premiers at AMC Theatres. He hosted art contests at the largest popular arts convention in the United States, Comic-Con International in San Diego. https://laloft.wufoo.com/cabinet/ejdwM2E1/gdRHTdo3Dl4%3D/tastecomiccomicconsandiegouniontribune.pdf#more

Why Does Wikipedia Hate Artist Brother Andy?

Brother Andy
Brother Andy immersed in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles

Art has historically been a point of contention — it’s all about beauty to some, while, for others, art is life itself. For His Grace, Brother Andy, his return to Downtown Los Angeles marks a turning point, a crossroads and watershed moment in his transition from marginalized artist to successful professional art maven, guru and master.  Andy is principal founder of the Intriguism art movement, the method that employs layers of new and old techniques to create a retro-futuristic messages that challenge our most powerful and deeply set ideas about life. It’s a challenge that unqualified censors are opposed to.

While traditional oil on canvas works still often command the biggest bucks, Brother Andy points out that billionaire breakout street artist like Banksy have today paved the way for acceptance and patronage of all kinds of modern artists. But innovative, non-conforming artists still have their censors and naysayers. Despite decades of notable breakthroughs in the world of arts, Brother Andy is today’s most profound example of the many throngs of artists who must battle against their mainstream detractors who try relegate most artists to obscurity and oblivion rather than promote the indispensable value of artists and their vital works.

This case in point, Brother Andy, is perhaps the most well-known and documented professional artist ever to be banished from the most popular online encyclopedia.  Other artists, art critics and art connoisseurs all agree with the media that his accomplishments and contributions have been noteworthy and of interest to society.  Even though his Wikipedia article was created and supported by 23 notable media references, a small group of Wikipedia editors made an executive decision to remove Brother Andy’s wikipedia article, saying that he is not noteworthy enough for Wikipedia.  This despite the fact that Wikipedia only requires one notable media references for a subject to be considered notable, and many poets and other individuals are included in Wikipedia even though they have far fewer media references, and many with no notable media references at all. Worse, the detractors even went as far as sabotaging Brother Andy’s Wikipedia article by removing most of the references and other support of Andy’s notability, leaving only wording to give a paltry, disparaging impression of Brother Andy.  The dastardly detractors deleted all of the most profound public news about the prolific creator of hundreds of films, TV shows, music videos, educational and experimental art films. They spared just  a few references for the purpose of giving the impression that he was only a make-up artist. The extreme efforts of the editors to decimate and delete relevant articles written by the Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union-Tribute and other notable media are not only a violation of Wikipedia rules, they are literally nothing but sad attempts to belittle an artist.  Was this done out of power-hungry jealousy, or simply due to their inability to understand the value of talents that they do not themselves possess? They may have diminished a prolific artists history and succeeded in temporarily deleting the article of a great artist, but they will not succeed in diminishing the whole truth. Wikipedia’s aggressivlely negative deleting editors are in the minority. They cannot delete the truth.  Artist Brother Andy will be back. #brotherandy

While his media-attention-gaining make-up was just a start, Brother Andy was to be seen all over the news since the 1970’s for re-creating Planet of the Apes style prosthetic appliances and horror / sci-fi consumes while still a high-school teen.  He then went on to help create the world’s most successful haunted house, Knott’s Scary Farm and to join the ilk of Elvira Mistress of the Dark and Count Smokula after Andy created the famous horror comedy character Armando Creeper. A comedic zombie of slapstick, Creeper was featured everywhere from ABC television to host of the huge Comic-Con International events and features.

Artist Brother Andy VS Wikipedia

Brother Andy denies being versus Wikipedia at all. There is no lawsuit, and no legal or other real conflict between him and Wikipedia.  “It is their loss,” says the confident artist”.  “It’s people like me that are required for Wikipedia to even exist. They are a prime example of group think that I am against. I’m not a populist. I will never be a populist, and that is exactly what they are. They are not about free thinking. They are repressive,” Andy continues. “I support Wikipedia’s freedom to be a private company that is run however they want.  That is want America is about: supply and demand. If they are giving a service and people want it, then go right ahead.”  The uber-arbist goes on to lead the viewpoint that the problem is with Wikipedia’s “double messages,” making it seem like it’s an open forum, while in fact it is not.  Brother Andy goes on to say “Group think and being populist are not about being fair, right or helpful.”  He expects that is key to Wikipedia’s own coming demise — it’s failure to adapt.  “Wikipedia is vailed censorship,” Andy adds, “It measures to an elitist’s mentality that seeks to narrow the truth, limiting it to their own truth.”

Brother Andy - Man of a Thousand Faces
Brother Andy – Man of a Thousand Faces

Wikipedia is controlled by The Wikimedia Foundation, Inc, a nonprofit charitable organization, which claims to be committed to “a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.”

Andy sees himself as a critical thinker who analyzes this today: “Wikipedia presents a great system that is global and provides a valuable service.  What they are doing to people is not right. It’s about status.”  He compares Wikipedia’s rejection of artists to the same domination mentality of modern Goliaths like Google — a search engine mentality about status, seeking to appear neutral while not being neutral at all. “Don’t give the double message that ‘we are open,’ ‘we are free’ and when you try to use it, to be kicked off,” insists the visionary artist. “This is what has created a false world history by censoring the truth in favor of forwarding the fabrication of their own agenda. They are not just offering facts, and then letting the reader come to their own conclusion. It’s predetermined, as truthful as a hall of mirrors.” exclaims Andy.

A tiny group of Wikipedia censors deleted the article about the artist even though the writing was based entirely on two years of painstaking research, archiving of 23 newspaper articles and public data on the artist. The meticulous procurement that went into Brother Andy’s article was submitted by the same author who created and edited dozens of respected Wikipedia articles about business and science, Corey Chambers (who is also the publisher of the L.A. Loft Blog).

The oppression of artists is not new. Andy gleans and shares from history about the way Pablo Picasso ended up in the last 10 year of his life, as Picasso was vilified by critics as a “common pornographer”. The turn-of-the-century media had high expectation of Picasso because he had reached notoriety as the #1 artist of the world at that time.  As he got older, his relevance was questionioned. Picasso and Brother Andy both represent the fact that innovation must be organic —  it cannot simply be contrived. Censors who rely on old notions are inherently unable to judge an ever-changing facet of the humanities.

Artist Brother Andy recently completed his 376th motion picture, “The Ghost of Room 13” starring Greg Griffin and Deborah Dutch.

Thanks to the L.A Loft Blog, Deletionpedia and dozens of major mainstream media outlets from the Los Angeles Times to Youtube, Brother Andy’s art will be preserved and shared regardless of who tries to hide or destroy it.
