Adaptive Use Ordinance Created A Robust Residential Neighborhood In Los Angeles Financial District

The Financial District contains some of the city’s tallest skyscrapers, and other significant destinations and buildings, including Los Angeles Public Library, MCI Center, Aon Center, City National Bank Plaza, Figueroa at Wilshire, Citigroup Center, 611 Place, 7+Fig Shopping Center and the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. The Financial District is also home to the 7th St/Metro Center station, which is served by the Metro Rail Red Line and Blue Line.

It resulted in the creation of thousands of housing units in downtown and a rush of people moving back to the area. In 2008 DTLA had a population of 34,811. In 2013 estimates put the residential population at 58,000 along with 500,000 jobs. Downtown is not just coming back, it has set a whole new paradigm.
