Downtown Los Angeles Typhus Outbreak

Rodents and their parasites have made the real estate news this week. Before we all go running away from Downtown Los Angeles out of a fear that we are going to catch typhoid fever, let’s take a closer look at how the typhus outbreak is happening.  Where is it coming from? Who has typhus? Where is it going? How to avoid it. #dtla #typhus #outbreak

STOP THAT FLEA!  Trash, rats, fleas cause typhus outbreak in Downtown Los Angeles

Downtown L.A. is not the only place with typhus problems lately, but it is the most prominent.  About nine Downtowners have been diagnosed with the sickness caused by flea-related bacteria, but fortunately none of them have died because today’s antibiotics are very effective at killing  the blood-borne germs.  More than half of cases involve homeless persons and their homeless pets or nearby flea-ridden wild animals, such as rats.

As DTLA has large concentration of homeless in the trashy middle of the area near San Pedro and 6th Street, we can deduce that the areas further away from the center of Downtown are less likely to encounter typhus.  The residents who live in cleaner neighborhoods near the outer edges of Downtown LA are less likely to catch typhoid fever.

The cleaner, safer outer districts include: South Park, Bunker Hill, Financial District, Civic Center, Chinatown, Lincoln Heights, Wilshire by Downtown and the Arts District.  Bunker Hill Tower has almost no pets — only a few service animals.

Bunker Hill stands out as the Downtown district with the fewest homeless, with more natural barriers against infected animals.  Providing a more healthy, comfortable lifestyle in an upscale neighborhood by the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Broad Museum and Center Theatre Group, Bunker Hill area condominium buildings include: Bunker Hill Tower, Promenade and Promenade West.

From pests to legal troubles, all buildings in Downtown Los Angeles have issues that buyers should know about before taking a look in person.  Get a free report on lawsuits and litigation in Downtown Los Angeles lofts and condos.  Fill out the online form:
