If you’d like to live/work in a cool loft in an historic industrial building by Downtown Los Angeles, you now have a new opportunity. Located near The Brewery Lofts in Downtown Los Angeles, the provocative modern loft building will let you live bold, and take a step outside the norm. Discover dramatic open spaces that take loft living to new heights within a vibrant neighborhood alive with possibilities.

Do you have a vision that you will be a pioneer in the next great place? Are you ready to get there now?

The eclectic mix of shops, restaurants and cafes of historic Lincoln Heights brings a true community vibe to Alta Lofts. Adding to the neighborhood’s appeal is its close proximity to Los Angeles’ most popular destinations. Dodger stadium, Walt Disney Concert Hall, MOCA and Downtown’s financial center are all just minutes away. With convenient access to three major highways and a nearby Gold Line stop, Pasadena, Glendale and Los Feliz are also easily accessible.

The building has a colorful past, giving it added texture and nuance today. Constructed in 1925, the building served as the Fuller Paint Company Warehouse for decades. Now, that same address is an important example of how adaptive reuse can artfully blend old and new to offer the best in contemporary living and still preserve a proud industrial heritage.

Building highlights include original four-story structure capped with two stories of newly constructed penthouse lofts, as well as direct-access, gated parking structure for residents and guests. Floor to ceiling industrial windows, along with retrofitted with dual panes are accompanied by exposed beam and ductwork. The exterior features fully landscaped open air courtyard and paseo, a fifth floor deck, and original concrete pillars throughout building.

The structure is a study in contrasts. The exterior features both neo-classic and contemporary touches. Inside, the same dichotomy holds with structural elements from the 1920s co-existing with modern kitchens, bathrooms and state-of-the-art sectional overhead doors. It’s an ideal mix, resulting in one-of-a-kind living spaces that radiate with light, energy and creativity.

Details matter here, cabinets, fixtures – each has been carefully selected to work together to create a welcoming and inspiring living environment. The building also features amazing unobstructed views of Downtown, Elysian Park and surrounding communities. It is an historic building with original architectural elements and two new modern penthouse floors. The residents of lofts enjoy designated parking in gated and adjacent garage. The building is further diversified with ground floor retail.

The bottom level is made up of 2-story and 3-story lofts. The two top levels (5th and 6th stories) are composed of new metal construction in modernist style. The center of the building was cut out for the restoration to add light, air and openness to the building and loft units.

Stop by the open house, email alta@laloft.org or call (213) 478-0499. The loft interiors feature high ceilings throughout – 7’ 10” to 11’ 6” ceilings, with double height ceilings in select penthouse units –18’ to 21’6”. Selected units feature private balconies. Most units feature exposed original walls and ceilings, in addition to original windows re-glazed with dual panes. A cool eclectic master touch is the sectional overhead doors on selected units. Floors 2, 3 and 4 come furnished with hardwood flooring. Some units are adorned with ceramic tile flooring in baths.

All lofts include Whirlpool stainless steel kitchen appliances, granite counter-tops, stainless steel kitchen sink, a 36” refrigerator space pre-plumbed for automatic ice-maker, central heating and air conditioning with energy saving night set-back thermostat. Each loft is pre-wired for gas washer/dryer hookup, and each loft has energy-efficient fluorescent lighting controlled by Decora switches throughout. “Many who planned to live in Downtown Los Angeles end up choosing Alta because it is a chic, genuine loft building that is bigger, nicer and cheaper than other nearby lofts,” says Corey Chambers, a Realty Source Broker Associate and Publisher of the L.A. Loft Blog. “A penthouse loft rental does not need to cost $4,000 per month.”

Downtown Dog Dangers: Elevator Leash Hanging – Don’t Let This Happen to Your Pooch

Downtown Los Angeles has plenty of dangers for people and pets, and some of them are less obvious, but more deadly than others.

Preventing Downtown disasters - Elevator dog leash safety
Preventing Downtown disasters – Elevator dog leash safety

Pet-friendly tall loft buildings and high-rise towers with views are awesome places to live, but they have their hidden dangers. Residences have had fingers broken by elevators doors, and worse. Dogs have no way to understand the inherent dangers of elevators, so they need extra protection around elevator doors in the form of extra caution, especially when they have a leash around their neck.  #petfriendly #dtla #lofts

Zzyzx the wuppy enjoys a rawhide after surviving another harrowing ordeal

Zzyzx the wuppy has nine lives, but not all dogs are so lucky.  The intelligent, human-like little pup has survived being abandoned on the street, nearly starved to death, high drops onto his face, being slammed in heavy closing doors, agonizing back problems, near misses by speeding cars, even a mauling by a pit bull.  The aggressive, expressive chihuahua mix makes it abundantly clear that he hates to be left at home alone, so he is sometimes brought with along to showings of lofts in Downtown Los Angeles.

Just a couple weeks ago, Zzyzx was walked into an elevator at the SB Grand amid a dumb mistake by his master trying to carry a ladder onto the elevator at the same time.  This led to a disastrous distraction as it caused Zzyzx to walk out of the elevator just as the door was closing.  The door could have closed on him, hurting his thin, fragile bones. But, the instant that I saw the door closing onto the leash as I was in the elevator holding the other end of the leash, I could tell that my loving puppy’s life was in serious danger, and I would give my right arm to save him.  I jumped toward the elevator buttons, thinking about how the elevator will go up and pull my little lap dog with thousands of pounds of force, and possibly a truly horrible outcome. I also knew that finding the right button that would successfully open the door would only be hit and miss proposition, as I use elevators in 75 different Downtown buildings daily, and often fail to press the right button at the right time only to have the elevator take off to an unknown floor to pick up a passenger.  Extremely scared, I looked for a stop button. There was none.  In a flash, I pressed the emergency call button and poked what was hopefully the door open button.  I did not expect it to work.  I feared for the worse as a vision of my puppy-baby’s mangled body flashed in my mind.  Anything could happen. Luck has is that the door opened because nobody had called the elevator.  Zzyzx was safe.

After that scary event, I took to Youtube when I got home to find that my fears were unfortunately correct.  While most dogs that get their leash trapped by an elevator door survive after the leash is snapped by the forceful elevator car pulling on the snagged leash, some dogs are hanged to death when the elevator car pulls the dog up to the top of the doorway and the dog sometimes gets stuck there to strangle.  If the door had not opened for me and Zzyzx, he would have been pulled up 7 feet into the air, then dropped onto concrete when the leash snapped, injuring him, or worse.  Thank God he survived yet another harrowing ordeal. It is hoped that this tale helps to prevent harm to anyone’s loving pet.

The L.A. Loft Blog recently helped prevent financial disasters by putting a local fraudster behind bars after some powerful blog posts, and hopefully, this article will help prevent a hairy pal from getting hanged.
