New Lofts Downtown Los Angeles Photos and Video

939 Broadway Lofts Details and Pics

The newest historic residential addition to the Broadway Theater district approaches near $1,000 per square foot — without deeded parking.  The latest (and perhaps boldest) Barry Shy loft conversion creation ventures into uncharted territory with some of the most expensive lofts exploding onto the scene, just as the national and local real estate markets cool.  No word yet on how many lofts may have sold.  #939lofts #broadway #newhomes

The location appears to be the key factor in Shy’s calculations, as the metamorphosing new loft building gets polished up right next door to the hipster fashionable Ace Hotel and Theater.  Adding A-List magic to the neighborhood, the new Apple Store project progresses in the old Tower Theater less than two blocks down the street. Even closer stands the art deco masterpiece landmark Eastern Columbia building. It’s not yet clear just how much hip cache can rub off onto 939 Lofts.  Judging by the ambitious price list, Mr. Shy appears to be a big believer in Bringing Back Broadway.  Take a look at the new photos, and tell us if you agree.   PHOTOS   |   COMMENT

Those who create art are generally aware that the renaissance and transformation of Downtown Los Angeles has changed social and economic aspect of the city center.  During the urban decay period from 1970s to 2000, Downtown attracted many starving artists due to its relatively low price per square foot for warehouses and converted loft residences.  Today, the starving artists have mostly left, while the super successful artists have been moving in.  Many financially well-off artists of the entertainment business have been moving into the urban area. This includes many Emmy Award winners, Academy Award winners and other movers and shakers of the creative industries.   #artists #lofts #losangeles

While the Broadway theater neighborhood has made a partial come-back, the Arts District, Bunker Hill Grand Avenue Arts area and South Park attract many thousands of artists and their patrons from all over the world. Skid Row plays home to the last bastion of starving artists.

These creative professionals have turned an ordinary or even blighted downtown into a desirable; energized urban places for human purpose; created extraordinary versions of ordinary buildings; recorded and commemorated life and work of Angelinos; given tangible forms to feelings and they’ve refreshed our vision to see Los Angeles and the world in new ways.

Some notable artists lofts buildings include: Alta Lofts and Higgins Building for their Emmy Award winning artists; El Dorado lofts and Rowan Lofts at the center of the Art Walk; Molino Lofts, Barker Block, Gallery Lofts, Barn Lofts, Beacon Lofts, Toy Factory and Biscuit Company for their extraordinary Arts District presence.
